Truly Affordable – The Story of the Pinckney House

Dan Martino from Martha’s Vineyard Productions has produced a short three minute video entitled Truly Affordable – The Story of the Pinckney House describing the “deep energy retrofit” process that transformed an older Oak Bluffs house bequeathed to the Island Housing Trust by Lorraine and Napoleon Pinckney into an energy efficient, healthy, and truly affordable home. Marc Rosenbaum from South Mountain Company explains the benefits of conducting a deep energy retrofit and Farley Pedler from Farley Built describes the steps involved in bring an older under performing house into the 21st century. The video was made possible through the sponsorship of the Martha’s Vineyard Vision Fellowship, Farley Built, and South Mountain Company.

DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

The Island Housing Trust is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, community-minded individual to fill the role of Development Manager for its non-profit community land trust and community development corporation on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. This full-time position will be responsible for managing fundraising initiatives and communication campaigns to create and sustain permanently affordable housing solutions. The qualified individual should have passion, skills and/ or experience in fund development, and excellent organizational, managerial and communications skills. FHLB Boston Grant Award

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston has awarded the Island Housing Trust a $390,000 grant through the Edgartown National Bank for the construction of six new energy efficient Water Street rental apartments in downtown Vineyard Haven that will serve low-income residents. 123 applicants from across the New England region competed for over $15 million in grant funding. The Island Housing Trust’s application was selected 15th out of the 32 awarded.  In addition, the Edgartown National Bank has provided the Island Housing Trust with an 18-month construction loan that will convert to a permanent loan.

This is the third year in a row that the FHLB Boston has awarded a project grant to the Island Housing Trust. Additional funding was also made possible by the Towns of West Tisbury and Tisbury’s Community Preservation Act, Charlesbank Homes, the Zeitgeist Foundation, Kuehn Charitable Foundation, and donations from individuals.

Farley Built, Inc. from West Tisbury has begun construction, and the apartments are scheduled to be completed in June of 2016.

Today is ‪#‎GivingTuesday‬, and we’re kicking off our year-end campaign to raise the rest of the funds to build six permanently affordable, energy efficient apartments on Water Street in Vineyard Haven. So far we’ve raised over $1,000,000 but we still have $137,000 to raise by the end of the year or we risk having to delay the project for an entire year!
