Our vision 2030 Strategic Plan charts a clear path to expanding affordable housing opportunities, supporting a resilient Island community for generations to come.
WHERE WE'VE COME FROM
Over the past two decades, Island Housing Trust has grown from a small community driven initiative into a leading nonprofit developer and long-term steward of permanently affordable homes. Today, with 174 completed homes and 140 more in the development pipeline, our mission has expanded in both scale and scope.
WHERE WE'RE GOING
Our 2030 goals build on our solid foundation. We’ll strengthen our core housing development work while deepening our commitment to stewardship, environmental sustainability, community engagement, advocacy, and long-term financial resilience.
OUR 2030 GOALS
Through an inclusive planning process—engaging residents, partners, town officials, staff, board members, and community leaders—we identified four strategic directions that will guide our focus and efforts through 2030
Create The Homes
- Build 200 additional permanently affordable, year‑round homes across all six Island towns, including single‑family houses, multi‑family residences, and pocket neighborhoods.
- Serve an additional 500 Island residents through a balanced mix of opportunities for low, moderate, and middle income households
- Maintain the permanent affordability of our homes to serve generations of Islanders to come
Expand Capacity
Through New Programs
- Strengthen the stewardship of our existing homes
- Implement a nitrogen mitigation banking program to enhance our green building practices
- Create a centralized hub for information on affordable housing Islandwide
Advocate and Engage
our Community
- Deepen our engagement with the community
- Cultivate broad public support for affordable housing
- Advance policy solutions that strengthen the Community Land Trust model
Establish a Strong, Diversified
