Island Housing Trust Turns 20!

As we step into our 20th anniversary year, we’re filled with gratitude, pride, and a deep sense of possibility. This milestone belongs not only to Island Housing Trust, but to every supporter, partner, resident, and community member who has walked alongside us. Our story is your story.

For two decades, together we have helped ensure that the Vineyard remains a place where year‑round residents can live, work, and thrive. The progress we’ve made is a direct result of your belief in a stronger, more inclusive Island community.

Highlights From the Last 20 Years:

  • Built 174 homes: We have created 174 permanently affordable rental and ownership homes, providing stable, year‑round housing for more than 400 Island residents.
  • Completing 40 more homes in the next two months: Soon we’ll welcome more than 100 additional year‑round residents to Meshacket Commons, a neighborhood of 40 permanently affordable rental and ownership homes in Edgartown.
  • Creating 100 additional homes: We are actively advancing 100 new homes (88 rentals and 12 ownership opportunities) across Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Tisbury, and West Tisbury.

As we enter our 20th year, this milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter. The challenges facing year‑round housing on the Vineyard demand creativity, collaboration, and sustained commitment, and we are meeting that moment with purpose. Guided by the lessons of the past twenty years, we are focused on expanding opportunity, strengthening neighborhoods, and advancing housing solutions that will support the Island’s workforce and families for generations to come.
