Island Housing Trust works in close partnership with Island towns, architects, and builders to design and build homes and neighborhoods that are both environmentally responsible and permanently affordable. We prioritize sites that are close to workplaces, accessible by public transportation, and located within already dense areas, reducing sprawl and supporting sustainable, year‑round communities. By incorporating green building practices that reduce energy use, maintenance needs, and long‑term operating costs, we help ensure that homes remain affordable for residents over time, not just at the point of purchase or lease. Through partnerships with the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank and other conservation leaders, Island Housing Trust advances a model of conservation‑based affordable housing that protects the Island’s natural resources while meeting critical housing needs.
