Kuehn’s Way in Tisbury is a neighborhood of 20 year-round, permanently affordable rental apartments. It consists of 10 duplex buildings in 5 clusters surrounding common deck spaces to allow accessibility and circulation. The neighborhood is home to 20 year-round households including approximately 30 working adult residents and 20 children.
The Kuehn’s Way neighborhood is a wonderful example of IHT’s conservation-based affordable housing model in which 60% of the 14.8-acres property (8.9-acres) is held in conservation, balancing our community’s critical need for year-round housing with the conservation of open space. A conservation easement on 8.9 acres was purchased by the Land Bank that significantly expands existing protected lands in the surrounding area and the Red Coat Hill Ancient Way. Built to high energy efficient standards, each home is filled with natural light and is affordable to heat and cool.
Completed and occupied in 2022, this year-round neighborhood was made possible with the grant funding and financing from the six island town’s Community Preservation Committees (CPC), state Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC), MassHousing, Cape Light Compact, Vineyard Power, and our many generous donors and foundations. Rental property services for the neighborhood are managed by The Community Builders.
